Summary

When a dental radiology procedure is performed, different elements come into play. For each possible failure in any of them, a detriment to its Quality can be associated. The loss of Quality has ethical and economic implications, reasons why it must be managed. Thus, it is recommended to establish a Quality Management System (QMS), which represents, through compliance with a series of requirements, a standard framework that covers the elements involved in these procedures. To guarantee the success of a QMS, actions based on Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) must be established. When reviewing the Chilean regulations that regulate the use of ionizing radiation in dentistry, we found that there is a gap in concepts and applications when talking about Quality, QMS, QA and QC. The purpose of this narrative review work is to prepare an updated document for Dental professionals, when managing Quality in a dental radiology service with a particular emphasis on the safety and radiological protection of people.

KEY WORDS: quality, quality management system, imaging, quality assurance, quality control.
