Summary
Dental whitening performed on non-vital teeth, or endogenous whitening, is a potential alternative to solve aesthetic problems caused by the alteration of the original color of teeth endodonticaly treated because of its conservative and efficient character. However, the knowledge of the limitations and the possible undesirable effect related to the treatment is essential for its success. The purpose of this study was to perform a literature review of whitening procedures of teeth without pulpar vitality, approaching the clinical indications, contraindications, its limitations, techniques, whitening agents used, and clinical procedures searching to control undesirable effect related to the treatment.
