Summary
The torus is considered an anatomical variation, not a pathological condition, which can cause problems in the process of manufacture of prostheses. Are characterized by a benign bone growth, limited, well defined, unilateral or bilateral, usually asymptomatic. Its etiology is described as multifactorial, including genetic and environmental factors, among others. Mainly describes two types of oral exostoses: torus mandibularis (TM) and torus palatine (TP), the latter being the most common. It is suggested that the two anomalies are related to the same gene is autosomal dominant inheritance with low penetrance.
