Comparison Between Modified Carnoy’s Solution and 5-Fluorouracil in the Recurrence of Odontogenic Keratocyst: A Narrative Literature Review

The aim of this review was to compare the effectiveness of modified Carnoy’s solution (MCS) versus 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in the recurrence of odontogenic keratocyst. An electronic search was conducted in the PubMed, Epistemonikos, and Google Scholar databases between April and September 2023. Articles were filtered by publication year, including those published between 2013 and 2023, with no language restriction. Five studies published between 2021 and 2023 were selected: two systematic reviews, two cohort studies, and one randomized controlled clinical trial. In conclusion, 5- FU showed a lower recurrence rate in the treatment of odontogenic keratocyst compared to MCS; however, this difference was not statistically significant.
