Summary

Conscious sedation is a technique meant to reduce anxiety levels associated with dental treatment, lowering the patient’s level of consciousness without sacrificing response to environmental stimuli. Nowadays medications and techniques used for conscious sedation are quite broad. The purpose of this article is to deliver through a narrative review, information regarding preoperative and perioperative management of conscious sedation, emphasizing the features of the most frequent techniques and medications employed within the outpatient oral surgery context.
