Summary
This document presents the history of the International Journal of Odontostomatology from the time of its creation in 2004 to 2025, as well as the farewell of its founding editor. The initiative emerged when Prof. Dr. Ramón Fuentes Fernández proposed the creation of a dentistry journal, a challenge that was accepted and developed until the ISSN numbers were obtained in 2006. The journal began circulation in 2007 with a semiannual publication frequency in both print and digital formats, covering dental disciplines and related basic sciences. Throughout its evolution, the journal underwent significant changes, including the incorporation of distinguished co-editors such as Drs. Ramón Fuentes, Iván Suazo, Mario Cantín (whose untimely passing in 2016 represented an invaluable loss), Sergio Olate, and Ignacio Roa. The journal achieved indexation in relevant databases such as LILACS (2007), Latindex, Ulrich’s, and SciELO (2010), attaining international recognition. Its publication frequency evolved from two to three issues per year (2010) and later to four issues (2017), reflecting the increase in manuscript submissions. In 2020, the journal transitioned to an exclusively digital format as a result of printing costs. Over 19 years of publication, more than 3,500 manuscripts were received, of which 1,328 documents were published. The founding editor wishes to express his gratitude to the Editorial Board, Scientific Committee, support staff, collaborating institutions, and sponsors, and wish the new editor ongoing success, so that the journal may continue to serve as a point of reference for dental surgeons in Chile and worldwide.
